Eligibility Checker Tool

The following series of questions will help us to establish what options are available to you and help us to determine if you are eligible for support from the BBC HD Satellite Upgrade help scheme.

Is the TV for which you are requesting support the only TV in the household?

Is this TV the main TV in your household?

Is a member of the household reliant on the affected TV box?

Can you tell us how you get your TV service?
By this, we’re asking who provides your TV service and whether you get your TV via a satellite dish or not.
Are you an active Sky TV customer?

By active, we mean are you a Sky customer and do you pay a monthly fee to Sky for your TV service. Sky is providing options for their paying Sky TV customers.
Please go to channel 799 on your TV set top box or TV set.

What message do you see?
Good News, you’re not affected and can continue to use your box as normal.
Sorry, your satellite set-top box is not capable of receiving high definition services. You will be affected by the satellite changes.
Other/Nothing
Let’s help you check if your TV set-top box is HD-enabled already.

Please go to channel 105 on your TV set. Does it show as Channel 5 HD or Channel 5?

The help scheme is being supported by the BBC and only active/current TV licence fee holders are eligible for assistance.

Is there a current/valid TV licence for this household?

Is this property for residential use only?

If the satellite box in your property is connected to a communal or shared satellite dish system (e.g you may live in a flat within a house or block) then we can upgrade your satellite box for you if you are eligible – but you will need to contact your landlord or property owner for any work that may be required to the communal dish and/or cabling system.

Are you or anyone in the household aged over 75 years old as of today, or will be over 75 by 31st March 2024?

Is anyone in the household in receipt of any of the following benefits: Personal Independence Payments (PIP); constant Attendance Allowance or War Pensioner's Mobility Support?

Thank you for answering our questions. Great news! Based on your responses and the criteria that the help scheme has set, you are eligible for support from the BBC which will allow you to watch all the BBC’s channels in HD.

Would you like to order your box online to be delivered to your household?

Unfortunately, with the information you provided you are not eligible for assistance through this help scheme. For details of the eligibility criteria for the HD Satellite Upgrade scheme, please refer to our Code of Service.

However, if you have an SD-only device, then it is important to keep up to date with when the BBC’s SD channels are due to switch off and ensure you are prepared so that your viewing of BBC channels remains unaffected.
